The Hierophant is a representative of the church, and generally represents organized systems like schools and churches and the orthodox training they bring. This is a card of convention and systems. It can herald a time when people are enrolling in school or participating more in structured community organizations. It represents institutions in many forms. It can also imply a pressure to conform.
When reversed, The Hierophant means a release or avoidance of those systems. It represents nonconformity, original ideas, and self-determined behavior. Rather than being led by conventional means, you are finding your own path. It can also generally indicate a stasis in structured institutions, and a need for change in these systems.
